January 4, 2007 - EBV is Founded

Headline


The Whitman School founds the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) to offer cutting-edge experiential training in entrepreneurship and small business management to post-9/11 veterans with service-related disabilities. The EBV expands to a consortium of universities across the U.S., with SU serving as national host. Close to 500 vets have graduated.

July 1, 2009 - Veterans Resource Center Opens

University College opens the Veterans Resource Center at 700 University Ave. The Center provides support to student-veterans with a personalized set of services from recruitment to degree completion.

January 15, 2010 - Veterans Program Expands

The University’s portfolio of veteran entrepreneurship further expands with the addition of EBV-Families, offered to military family members turned full-time caregivers to a wounded warrior and spouses of those who lost their lives in service to our country; V-WISE, open to female veterans and their spouses/partners from any branch or era of military service; and Operation Endure & Grow, an online training program for National Guard and Reserve members and their families.

2011 - V-WISE Launched

Veteran Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (V-WISE) is a premier training program in entrepreneurship and small business management. V-WISE helps women veterans and female military spouses/partners find their passion and learn the business savvy skills necessary to turn an idea or start-up into a growing venture.

January 15, 2011 - Veterans Career Transition Program

The non-credit Veterans Career Transition Program (VCTP) is offered free to post-9/11 veterans by SU’s School of Information Studies (iSchool) and JPMorgan Chase & Co., providing training for veterans aspiring to careers in technology and operations in large corporations.

June 11, 2011 - IVMF is Launched

The Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) is launched in June 2011 to serve all 25 million U.S. veterans, focusing on the social, economic, education and policy issues affecting them and their families post-service. JPMorgan Chase & Co. broadens its existing collaboration with SU to provide industry leadership, serving as founding partner of the institute.

2014 - Boots to Business

The curriculum provides assistance to those interested in exploring business ownership or other self-employment opportunities by leading them through the key steps for evaluating business concepts and providing foundational knowledge required to develop a business plan. In addition, participants are introduced to SBA resources available to access start-up capital, technical assistance and contracting opportunities.

2015 - AmericaServes First Network Launched

AmericaServes is the country’s first coordinated system of public, private, and non-profit organizations working together to serve Veterans, transitioning service-members, and their families. Our vision is that every service-member, Veteran, and their family can easily access the full range of comprehensive services required to achieve their unique goals, and to provide a first-class service experience to match service-member and Veterans’ first class military service. We work to ensure all public, private, and non-profit organizations serving Military families are accountable to one another and should embrace formalized communication, coordination, and transparency.

2015 - Onward to Opportunity

Onward to Opportunity is a free, comprehensive career skills program that provides civilian career training, professional certifications, and employment services support to transitioning service members, members of the selected reserves, veterans, and military spouses. O2O partners with private sector companies committed to training and hiring military talent and their spouses earlier in the transition process. If you are not located near one of our on-base installations, we offer distance-learning opportunities through the online-only portion of the program.

2016 - V-WISE IGNITE

Headline


A one-day entrepreneurship training event offered in cities across the United States. This program is the perfect option for women veterans, active duty service women, and women military spouses/life-partners who are just beginning to explore the opportunity of small business ownership as a post-service career path

2017 - VetSource

Headline


This one-day event seeks to help veteran and military spouse-owned businesses gain valuable resources, information, and best practices around corporate supplier diversity and procurement readiness to help them grow their companies and find supplier opportunities.

2018 - Veteran EDGE

The IVMF’s Veteran EDGE Conference is the largest gathering of its kind in the country, with over 450 veteran and military spouse business owners, supporters, stakeholders, VIPs, influencers, and CEOs from the fastest-growing veteran-owned businesses

Take advantage of resources, webinars, and a community of veterans and military spouses that share the IVMF bond through their post-service lives. Long after you complete your course or residency, you are connected to the IVMF team for follow-up resources and opportunities as your professional goals evolve. No matter if you graduated from Onward to Opportunity or one of the eight Arsenal entrepreneurship programs the Alumni Services team supports all IVMF graduates in realizing and accomplishing their professional and personal goals.

2019 - STRIVE

The Startup Training Resources to Inspire Veteran Entrepreneurship (STRIVE) program is part of a landmark initiative that transforms veterans and military family members into entrepreneurs. Delivered by Syracuse University’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families’ (IVMF) ARSENAL of 8 national entrepreneurship programs, STRIVE leverages networks and education resources in local communities to support and advance veteran owned businesses.

2020 - CORE

The IVMF Community for Online Resources and Engagement (CORE), is an engagement platform built in partnership between IVMF and its technology partner Accenture, in pursuit of the best user experience imaginable. Demonstrating this commitment to veterans, transitioning service members, and their spouses, the IVMF CORE allows all current Onward to Opportunity (O2O) program participants and alumni from the vast portfolio of IVMF programs to stay connected, support each other, and learn from one another. This includes easy access to assigned training/industry certification exam prep materials, an enhanced collaboration space where learners can share best course completion practices and study habits, extensive networking opportunities with other O2O participants, IVMF alumni, mentors, and industry professionals, and access to essential training/career transition resources to current O2O participants and post program support resources for our IVMF alumni community.

National Veterans Resource Center

2020 - NVRC

The National Veterans Resource Center (NVRC) represents an unprecedented commitment by Syracuse University to cultivate and lead innovative academic, government, and community collaborations positioned to empower those who have served in defense of the nation. This state-of-the-art facility, spearheaded by a transformational gift from Dan ’68 and Gayle D’Aniello, will serve as the center of veteran life on the campus of Syracuse University, in the local community, and across Central New York. Specifically, the NVRC will function as a bridge to forging public-private partnerships, a collaborative space to nurture academic research and actionable programming, and a forum to facilitate collaborative thought leadership – all for the purpose of advancing the social, economic, and wellness concerns of the nation’s veterans and their families.
