The Onward to Opportunity Program at Fort Drum

Section Headline

Onward to Opportunity (O2O) is a no-cost industry-focused and validated career skills program that connects transitioning service members and active-duty military spouses to high-demand careers in Customer Service Excellence, Information Technology, and Business Management. The O2O Program at Fort Drum offers an enhanced experience with both in-person and virtual opportunities. Candidates begin O2O by completing an introductory professional development course, Onward to Your Career!, then move on to complete the courses in their selected learning pathways.

The six-month program begins with the introductory professional development course, Onward to Your Career!, Which includes a foundation course in a learning pathway of your choosing (approximately 3 days of training). Next, candidates begin their individual learning pathway. The first 3 months are designed for learning pathway coursework completion and the later 3 months are allocated for test preparation. The courses are individually paced and can be completed ahead of schedule. Service members, with Battalion Commander Authority through the Fort Drum Transition Assistance Program’s Career Skills Program (CSP), will complete their learning pathway (online training) in 8-weeks following a duty report schedule. Duty report schedules may vary depending on certification pathway. Veterans and spouses do not have duty report schedules and will follow the original program completion timelines for their learning pathway.

While candidates complete their coursework, they will also participate in mixer/networking events with our National Employer Partners to hone personal marketing techniques and skills. O2O candidates work one-on-one with a HHUSA Veteran Transition Specialist (VTS) to complete their resume, prepare for and secure job interviews
